Substitute Authorization
The Substitute Authorization course addresses the four components required by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners: ethics, diversity, classroom management, and learning strategies. This 15-hour course prepares you to become a substitute teacher for preschool through 12th grade. With this certification, you can substitute for up to ten consecutive days within a 30-day period, except in driver’s education classes.
For Paraeducators: If you hold a Paraeducator Generalist Certificate but do not have 60 college credits, this course allows you to substitute only in the special education classroom where you currently work, following the same ten-day limit.
